Audition Notice for Annie

The Syracuse Community Arts Council is hold Auditions for their Summer Musical, “Annie”

Audition Details (please read carefully)
Friday April 19, 6pm - Adult Dance Auditions ages 17+.

Saturday April 20, 9am to Noon - Individual Vocal & Orchestra Auditions ages 8 – 80

Saturday April 20, 1pm - Youth Dance Auditions ages 8 - 16.

You MUST attend both a dance and vocal audition to be considered for a lead role or an orphan. This will be a very “Dance Heavy” show. The Director would prefer that EVERYONE do both, since the show will be full of lots of dance.

Audition Requirements: 16 bars of an upbeat Broadway show, but not from ANNIE. An accompanist will be provided. All minus tracks must be on CD. Please bring a current photo of yourself (4×6 is fine) and be prepared to fill out a conflict calendar. Audition forms will be available online soon, http://www.syracuseutaharts.org or can be filled out at the audition. Auditions will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Call Backs:
Will be Monday April 22nd starting at 6pm. Not everyone will be called back. A final cast list will be posted Tuesday April 23.

Rehearsals will begin immediately! Our first cast meeting will be Thursday April 25, and the first music rehearsal will be Saturday, April 27. A more complete rehearsal schedule will be made available at the auditions. Rehearsals are typically held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings & Saturday morning.

Show dates are July 19, 20 and 22. At Syracuse High School.

Lead
Annie: Must be able to appear age 11, Female. Energetic and optimistic orphan who never gives up hope that better days are ahead. Sings “Maybe” and “Tomorrow”. (Voice Range: Low A to High F.) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Adult Leads
Oliver Warbucks: Must be able to appear age 40-65, Male. A powerful billionaire, who always has his mind on business, but has a kind heart looking for someone to love. Sings “Something Was Missing” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You”. (Vocal Range: Baritone to a high F.) Must be able to sing and act. The role involves a very small amount of dance. May be required to SHAVE head.

Grace Farrell: Must be able to appear age 25-35, Female. Loyal and intelligent private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She brings Annie and Warbucks together. Sings “I think I’m Gonna Like It Here”, “NYC”, “You Won’t Be an Orphan For Long” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You”. (Vocal Range: Soprano to high G). Must be able to sing, act and dance.

Miss Hannigan: Must be able to appear age 35-60, Female. Desperate and unhappy with her lot in life, she is the alcoholic orphanage matron who is Annie’s nemesis. Sings, “Little Girls” and “Easy Street”. (Vocal Range: Alto A to D) Must be able to sing, act and dance.

Lily St. Regis: Must be able to appear age 25 - 35, Female. Shady, floozy girlfriend of Rooster. Sings “Easy Street”. (Vocal Range: Soprano up to a high G) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Rooster: Must be able to appear age 25-45. Male. Miss Hannigan’s greedy and dishonest brother. Sings “Easy Street” (Vocal Range: Tenor to high G). Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Roosevelt: Age 40-65, Male. The President of the United States of America, who takes an immediate liking to Annie and her optimism. Must be able to imitate Roosevelt and be able to sing and act. Sings “Tomorrow Reprise” and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Vocal Range: Baritone).

Supporting Youth
Duffy: Must be able to appear age 16, Female. The oldest girl in the orphanage. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life”, “Never Fully Dressed Reprise”, and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F). Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

July: Must be able to appear age 12-16, Female. The quietest girl in the orphanage. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life”, “Never Fully Dressed Reprise”, and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Kate: Must be able to appear age 8-12, Female. The second to youngest orphan. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life” and “Never Fully Dressed Reprise”, and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Molly: Must be able to appear age 6, Female. One of the youngest orphans. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life”, “Never Fully Dressed Reprise”, and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Pepper: Must be able to appear age 10-14, Female. The toughest girl in the orphanage. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life” and “Never Fully Dressed Reprise”, and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Tessie: Must be able to appear age 9-14, Female. This is the crybaby of the orphanage. Sings “It’s A Hard Knock Life”, “Never Fully Dressed Reprise” and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act, and dance.

Special Individual/Chorus Roles
Bert Healy: Must be able to appear age 30-55, Male. A popular radio announcer. Sings “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”. (Vocal Range: Tenor to F#) (This role may be doubled with chorus.)

Lt. Ward: Must be able appear 20-60, Male. NYPD officer who is suspicious of Annie. (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Boys Chorus: Age 8-16, Townspeople who appear in “Hooverville” and “NYC” (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Orphan Chorus: Must be able to appear age 6-16, Female. Sing “It’s A Hard Knock Life”, “Never Fully Dressed Reprise” and “New Deal For Christmas.” (Voice Range: Low A to High F) Must be able to sing, act,and dance.

Bundles McCloskey: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male. The laundry man who flirts with Ms. Hannigan and aids Annie’s attempt to escape. Spoken (no solos). (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Jimmy Johnson: Must be able to appear age 20-55, Male. Silly radio personality on Bert Healy’s radio show. (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Fred McCracken: Must be able to appear age 20-55, Male. Puppet wrangler. Uses a dummy on Bert Healy’s radio show. Baritone. (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

The Lovely Boylan Sisters: (Connie, Ronnie, Bonnie) Must be able to appear ages 20-40, Female. Singing group that sing back up to Bert Healy. Must be able to sing well and harmonize. (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.) (Vocal Range: Requires 1 Alto, 1 First Soprano, 1 Second Soprano.)

Harold Ickes: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male. An associate of President Roosevelt. (Must be able to sing harmony.) (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Perkins: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male or Female. An associate of President Roosevelt. (Vocal Range: Baritone or Soprano) (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Hull: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male or Female. An associate of President Roosevelt. (Must be able to sing harmony.) (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Morganthau: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male or Female. An associate of President Roosevelt. (Must be able to sing harmony.) (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Louis Howe: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Male. An associate of President Roosevelt. (Must be able to sing harmony.) (If this role is doubled with chorus, must be able to sing, act, and dance.)

Star to Be: Must be able to appear age 16-25, Female. Aspiring Broadway actress who sings during NYC. Mezzo.

Adult Chorus: Age 16 and up. Male and Female. Townspeople who appear in “Hooverville”, “NYC”, and may appear as servants at Warbuck’s Mansion. Must be able to sing, act, and dance. Additional songs may include “I think I’m Gonna Like it Here”, “You Won’t Be An Orphan For Long”, “I Don’t Need Anything But You” and “New Deal For Christmas.”

Additional speaking characters:
Cecille and Annette: Must be able to appear age 20-60, Female. Maids at Warbucks’ home.

Drake: Must be able to appear 25-60, Male. Head butler in the Warbucks’ home.

Mrs Greer: Must be able to appear 25-60, Female. Oliver Warbuck’s head housekeeper.

Mrs Pugh: Must be able to appear 25-60, Female. Oliver Warbuck’s cook.
