New World Shakespeare Company Presents Julius Caesar to Spotlight the Epilepsy Alliance of Utah
NWSC is known for its modern, cutting edge productions of classic Shakespearean scripts. The local theatre company began in 2012 as a group of artists who wanted to make classic stories more accessible to modern audiences without sacrificing the richness of the language. Each modernized production highlights a campaign to raise awareness for a local charitable cause that relates to the theme of the show. With this spring’s Julius Caesar, NWSC steps into a near future utopian society where gender is sometimes ambiguous, often fluid and always publically suppressed or hidden, in order to tell an old and familiar story of human vulnerability and societal behavior.
NWSC’s Julius Caesar will spotlight the Epilepsy Alliance of Utah. Director, Blayne Wiley says, “Several actors in our company or their family members have dealt with seizures as did Julius Caesar himself.” 1 in 26 people will experience seizures at some point in their lives and there are more people dealing with epilepsy that those dealing with Parkinson’s, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis combined. The Epilepsy Alliance of Utah helps with everything from support groups for people with epilepsy and their families and friends to personal rights advocacy and resources for training and connecting with seizure service dogs.
