Auditions/Script Call/Playwright Call/Director Call – Wasatch Theatre Company
To further meet their objective of providing a platform for original works by local artists, Wasatch Theatre Company is looking for actors, directors, and playwrights for their Page-to-Stage Festival (Remix) this January. For sixteen years, Wasatch has brought together actors and playwrights to create new types of theatre in a variety of contexts. And this year they are looking to shake things up a little.
For two weekends in January, Wasatch will invite audiences to participate in/watch their Festival (Remix) in the following ways: Thursdays: Story Slam. Bring your stories and enter a drawing to perform (or just cheer on your friends as they share their stories). During the Slam, playwrights will be assigned a story upon which they will write a play – and they will have until Saturday morning to finish their scripts. Fridays: Devised Theatre. Wasatch will select a few performers to share devised theatre pieces on Fridays (January 6th and 20th) of the Festival (Remix). Saturdays: the original scripts started on Thursday night will be performed on Saturday nights (January 7th and 21st). Each Saturday night will include five original plays. To put all of this together, we would love to involve as many artists as possible.
- Storytellers needed.
- Wasatch will be hosting a Story Slam on Thursday, January 5th and Thursday, January 19th. Bring your story and enter the drawing to perform. Details will follow in the coming months. Just keep these dates on your calendar and get ready to share your story.
- Playwrights needed.
- Wasatch invites playwrights to ‘Write into the Night’ as part of their Festival (Remix). Selected playwrights will attend the Thursday night Story Slam and will be assigned a random story upon which to write a short script. They will have between the Thursday night performance and Saturday morning to finish the script. The scripts will then be performed on Saturday night. Interested? Submit a sample of your writing to [email protected] by August 31. We are looking for 5 playwrights for each weekend of the festival (January 5th and January 19th). Playwrights may be selected to participate in both weekends.
- Directors needed.
- Wasatch is looking for directors to transform the ‘Write into the Night’ scripts into productions as part of the ‘Play in a Day’ component of the Festival (Remix). We are seeking five directors who are willing to work with a new script on Saturday, January 7th and Saturday, January 21st. Interested? Send a directing resume and statement of interest to [email protected] by August 31.
- Actors needed.
- Wasatch theatre is looking for 15 actors to participate in their ‘Play in a Day’ program, which is part of their Page to Stage Festival (Remix). Performances will be on Saturdays January 7th and 21st. The entirety of the rehearsal process will also be on those days. Interested? Auditions will be Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. until noon and Tuesday, September 13th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Studio Theatre at the Rose Wagner (138 West 300 South). These are open auditions – no appointment necessary. Those auditioning are asked to come with a short monologue (memorization not necessary).
- Devised Theatre Performers.
- Wasatch is looking for a handful of devised theatre performers to showcase their talents on the Fridays during their Festival (Remix). Interested in this unique theatre experience? Auditions will be Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. until noon and Tuesday, September 13th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Studio Theatre at the Rose Wagner (138 West 300 South). These are open auditions – no appointment necessary. Those auditioning are asked to come prepared with a minute snippet that represents their planned devised theatre piece.
- Scripts needed.
- Wasatch will also have workshops and play readings during the middle weekend (January 12 – 14) of the Festival (Remix). If you have an original script you would like to see turned into a staged reading, please submit it to [email protected] by October 1, 2016. All staged readings will be followed by a feedback session/Q&A with audience members.
Wasatch theatre will also soon have a call for playwrights to take part in their traditional Page-to-Stage Festival and playwriting group. Stay tuned!
