Leave It In Writing

Original play, written and directed by Tanner Tate. Bring two contrasting monologues. Ages 14-18 ONLY.

Leave It In Writing is making it’s debut performance at Draper Historic Theatre. This show is narrated by Tucker, an 18-year-old boy, as he writes a memoir about the drastic transformation everyone in his family undergoes over the course of a year. The story is a powerful testament to the importance of family in times of pain and loss.

Characters:

TUCKER - Average height, average build. Not looking for anything specific.

ANNA - Older sister. College student/actress. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH ON-STAGE AFFECTION. (Kissing/hugging/”being cute”).

SAMMY - Younger brother. Obsessed with computer games, superheroes, Star Wars, and everything in between. Must be okay with some heavy material concerning underage drinking and bullying.

BUD - Youngest brother. Easily affected by family contention. Must look very young.

DANIEL - Father of the family. Should look older, but kind and clean-cut.

NATALIE - Mother of the family. Actress must be comfortable with yelling a lot on-stage and acting verbally abusive.

AUNT AMBERLY - “Cool Aunt”. Not looking for anything specific.

THOMAS - Anna’s boyfriend. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH ON-STAGE AFFECTION. (Kissing/hugging/”being cute”).

JOSEPH - One of Sammy’s ‘crazy friends’. Could look a bit ragged, but it’s not necessary.

UNCLE JAMES - Daniel’s brother. It would help for him to look older, but other than that, I’m not looking for anything specific.

FRIENDS - Friends of both Natalie and Sammy during their rough times. Once again, I’m not looking for anything specific, because we’ll work with the actors to make them fit the part.

AUBREY - Only appears for a brief moment at the end of the show. Should look mature. (Will probably also play one of Natalie’s friends.)

  1. Ellie G. says:

This sounds like a very great original piece. When will auditions be and what times?

  2. Tanner Tate says:

    Ellie G. :

Auditions will be February 27th from 9 AM to noon, on a first-come-first-served basis.

  3. Krystal F says:

Is there any swearing in this show for the character of Anna?

    • Tanner Tate says:

Not that I can recall, but she does deal with some other semi-heavy material, such as heartbreak, depression, and running away.

      • Krystal F says:

Those are some important issues to educate people about. Would a Shakespeare monologue work as one of the monologues?

        • Tanner Tate says:

You could do it, but it’s a very modern play, so it wouldn’t really show me how you would perform in one of the character roles. I would suggest two contemporary monologues.

  4. B'Elana W says:

This looks like a very interesting show! Looking forward to auditioning!

  5. Marilyn Gallaway says:

You only want ages 14-18? What about the mother?

  6. Samantha says:

Do you have any idea when rehearsals would be?

  7. Samantha says:

I’m sorry for all of the questions but do you know when the show would run?
