Wasatch Theater Company is proud to announce auditions for musical version of Alice Walker’s classic novel and the Stephen Speilberg movie, “The Color Purple. Directed/Choreographed by William Cooper Howell. The show performs September 11-27. Rehearsals are from July to September 11.
Looking for 9 women, 6 men, of color (Brown ethnicities apply), all roles available. Actors will receive a stipend.
Vocal selection for audition should be 32 bars of a song the auditioner has a strong emotional connection too. In essence, be able to emotionally perform the song. Callbacks will include movement.
The Color Purple is an inspiring family saga set in rural Georgia that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who – through love – found the strength to triumph over an abusive childhood, an even more abusive marriage, the separation from her sister, and the loss of her children, discovering her unique voice in the world. Set to a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and forgiveness.
