GOOD COMPANY THEATRE PRESENTS
PULITZER PRIZE AND TONY AWARD WINNING PLAY “I AM MY OWN WIFE” STARRING DEE PACE
APRIL 14-30 | FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS AT 8PM | 2ND SATURDAY AND SUNDAYS AT 4PM
OGDEN, UT—Good Company Theatre is pleased to announce our 2017 season opener I Am My Own
Wife by Doug Wright. This 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and 2004 Tony Award for Drama winner features the performance of over 30 different characters by a single actor, theatre veteran and retired educator Dee Pace, told from the perspective of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a transgender woman who survived Nazi and Communist Germany.
On the brink of the Berlin Wall’s collapse, Charlotte von Mahlsdorf settles into the Gründerzeitmuseum she founded to house her collection of antiques and everyday objects. With warmth and humor she tells her life story, beginning with her boyhood struggle against an abusive father, and the bohemian scene of pre-WWI Berlin where she began living as woman. Decades later and against all odds, Charlotte has survived two of the most oppressive fascist regimes of the twentieth century. Her grace and flare for storytelling give color to all aspects of her extraordinary life.
“I Am My Own Wife is a tour de force play that forces audiences to examine the full range of human experience,” says Good Company Theatre Co-Director Alicia Washington. “It is an enthralling tale of survival and self-discovery.”
This production features performances by Utah theatre mainstay Dee Pace. Most recently seen as Fester in The Addams Family, he has also been seen as Pseudeles in A Funny Thing Happened…, Fagan in Oliver!, and Stage Manager in Our Town. It is directed by Trent Cox (Rock of Ages, The Flick, The Waiters).
I Am My Own Wife is not recommended for audiences under age 13. It includes adult language and content. Press preview/review tickets are available at your request. We ask that they be used during opening weekend. General admission tickets are $17 online at goodcotheatre.com and at the door. For the first time, we are offering a Saturday matinee for this production.
