Now Playing: An Anne of Green Gables “Concert”

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES “CONCERT”
Babcock Performing Readers will present in April a “concert” drawn from the Anne books of Lucy Maud Montgomery. The Prince Edward Islanders of Anne’s day were well up on the art of elocution and oral interpretation, and often presented formal “concerts,” where popular poetry, tableaux and readings were given, in addition to musical numbers. Gordon S. Jones has selected many of Anne’s favorites and put them together in such as concert as is described in Anne of Green Gables and others of the Anne books. These will be presented by readers drawn from BPR members on 12 April at 7:30 in the Olpin Little Theater at the University of Utah Student Union (not too late to become a member and participate). Admission and parking are free.
Included will be “The Maiden’s Vow,” “Bingen on the Rhine,” “Curfew Must Not Ring Tonight,” “The Lily Maid of Astolat,” and more besides. For more information on this tribute to the literary sensibilities of everyone’s favorite redheaded orphan, call Gordon at 801-541-0326 or email [email protected].
