Pleasant Grove, UT, September 23, 2015 – The Pleasant Grove Players will present the murder mystery within a murder mystery, “The Butler Did It” by Walter and Peter Marks, from October 9- 26 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings at 7:30pm. There will also be a Saturday matinee at 3:00pm on October 24. “The Butler Did It” will be presented in the Keith Christeson Theater on the first floor of the Pleasant Grove Library at 30 East Center Street. Howard and Kathryn Little are directing this production.
“The Butler Did It” has been described as the Off-Broadway equivalent of Deathtrap. This deft and diabolically clever thriller mingles laughter and chills as it skillfully unwinds its twisted tale of murder and mayhem in the glittering world of the theatre. Anthony J. Lefcourt, writer and director, is rehearsing his new play, a “classic whodunit” (in which all the characters are named Butler) with which he hopes to regain the success that has eluded him in recent seasons. Desperately eager to stimulate his cast to their best efforts, he has deliberately withheld the final scene of the play from them, but his patience is worn thin by petty jealousies and romantic rivalries. Before long, both the actors and audience alike are unsure what is real and what is make-believe.
Co-director Kathryn Little commented, “It’s always fun watching characters in a play come to life, but in this show we get a double-dose as each actor plays their character AND the character they play in the play within the play! We have a wonderful cast to play, (and play) with! We think of it more as a comedy-thriller as we see these crazy theater characters stumble their way through inflated egos for their moment in the lime-light! What a romp!”
The cast includes: James Boley, Gordon Jones, Darrin McGraw, Dennis Purdie, Shelly Truax and Alyse Walker. Sherri Holcombe is the stage manager for the production.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $9 for students and seniors ($1 less for the matinee.) Seating is reserved and tickets may be purchased online at pgplayers.com.
