I (very passively) shopping for a bike to ride.  I'm so overwhelmed! They range from like... $75 at walmart to $90,023,302,325 and I have no idea what the difference is!

I mean, I get that something that is $500 is going to be better than something that is $100, but its' hard for me to gauge what I really need, and what I should probably not settle for.

I'm trying to find something in the $100-$200 range that I can just ride around town for something to get me out of the house.  I live in St. George, so I assume there are mountain biking trails around too.

I know there's a pretty big bike culture in LA and I could probably build a bike out of used parts if I knew the right people, but I don't!  I don't mind buying off of craig's list, but that is even harder for me to know if I'm getting a good deal or not.

Can anyone help?  Tell me what to buy or what to do!  I'm too afraid to trust online reviews, I can't afford something expensive, and I don't want a crappy bike I won't enjoy riding.

I actually have a burnt orange UT 2005 Champion cruiser I've been trying to unload. I won it in a raffle and it's too big for me to ride. Sad

Not sure if you're a Longhorns fan though....

What?  it has a sports team on it?  I can't ride that.  It would just... shame me too much to be seen riding something with sports memorabilia.

I'm not proud of how immature that seems, but I just couldn't.

But if it's just an orange bike, I'm cool with that!

Haha, yeah. This baby's got UT Longhorns plastered all over it.

In a related question, is there any way to MacGyver a bike that's too big for you into one that fits?

Yes, but you need an emory board, a pair of tweezers, and dental floss....   Wink

My skills are as varied as they are impractical.
