THE STORY: Two actors with a heady affair in their past, find themselves now uncomfortably cast in a revival of a musty play from the 1930’s. Their roles? A man and woman with a heady affair in their past.

When estranged lovers are thrown together as romantic leads in a long-forgotten 1930’s melodrama, the line between offstage and onstage begins to blur. Sarah Ruhl brings her unique mix of lyricism, sparkling humor, and fierce intelligence to the world of romantic comedy. The play asks us to consider what is real, both in love and in art.

When I kissed you just now, did it feel like an actor kissing an actor or a person kissing a person?
