DIRECTIONS TO AUDITIONS:
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please bring a hard copy of a theatrical resume and a headshot. Please prepare a 1-minute monologue that reflects the character you are auditioning for (not from Freaky Friday.) Auditioners are also asked to prepare to sing 32 bars of a Broadway song in a style that suits your voice. Please bring your back tracks on your own MP3/ phones. Plugins for MP3 players/phones/pads will be provided. NO A CAPPELLA singing, please. Please find the karaoke or minus track without singing. A piano will also be available if you would like to provide your own accompanist. We want to hear your voice, NOT the voice of the artist who recorded the song.
7 Performances will take place at the Valentine Theater at 7:30 PM on March 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19.
REHEARSALS: We plan to have rehearsals beginning in December, 3 days a week leading to tech. Tech week will increase the number of rehearsals. You may or may not be called for all of those rehearsals depending on your role.
The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films (and developed by Disney Theatrical Productions expressly for licensing to theatres), features a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then.
When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
Katherine Blake: Female, 40-49
a single mother who runs her own catering business. Overprotective and Type A, she believes she can have it all by doing it all: event planning, designing, and catering her own perfect wedding. Must also portray Ellie in Katherine’s body. Strong belter.
Ellie Blake: Female, 15
the hero of the story. A rumpled, disorganized “everygirl.” She is smart, funny, and passionate about her school’s underground scavenger hunt, but sees herself as a “Whats-her-name,” and easily forgotten, unlike her “perfect” mom. Must also portray Katherine in Ellie’s body. Strong belter.
Fletcher Blake: Male, 8
Katherine’s eccentric son and Ellie’s younger brother. He is a budding puppeteer who habitually annoys his sister (but secretly looks up to her).
Mike Riley: 40-49
Katherines fiancé and a contractor by trade. A warm, reliable, easygoing guy. He adores Katherine and her kids. Bari-tenor.
Adam: Male, 13-19
Love interest for Ellie. Slouchy and scruffy, he is a paragon of adorable cool. Acts as the “List Master” of the school’s annual underground scavenger hunt. Tenor.
Female and Male Ensemble: Male, 6-100
Seeking kids, teenage and adult actors with fantastic singing voices of all ethnicities. The ensemble also plays featured roles.
Producer: Mindy Eckroth
Director: Bridgette Stowell
Choreographer: DaMelly Alderete
Stage Manager: Lindsay Barratt
