“Five Carols for Christmas” and “JingleJacks”

Sugar Factory Playhouse and West Jordan Theater Arts announce auditions for two original one-act musicals: “Five Carols for Christmas” and “JingleJacks” (books and lyrics by Jim Christensen, music by Kenneth Plain, directed by Michelle Groves).

Auditions will be October 10 and 11 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the old West Jordan library (1970 West 7800 South). Callbacks will be Saturday, October 14 by invitation only at the same location.

Auditioners should come prepared to sing 16 measures of an upbeat Broadway tune or Christmas song with an upbeat twist/spin. An accompanist will be provided. Solo expertise and four- and five-part harmonizing will be required for the shows. Callbacks will consist of cold-reading from the script and singing songs from the show.

“Five Carols for Christmas”: five females ages 18-40 and one male or female that plays the piano very well
“Five Carols for Christmas” takes place in 1954, featuring five best friends - all named Carol, each with a different spelling - preparing for their holiday gala at the local community center on the worst weather day of the year. When the power goes out just as the women are rushing off for their performance, the plot becomes not only complicated, but absolutely hilarious.

“JingleJacks”: four males ages 18-30
“JingleJacks” is the wild tale of four musical lumberjack YouTube stars who broadcast a variety show from the Canadian wilderness and are known as “The JingleJacks”. The story begins with our heroes returning from a day in the woods to prepare for their live, on-line, boy-band show. Their performances include a variety of styles - rap, barbershop, classical quartet, and Irish and Russian carols, to name a few.

Rehearsals are typically held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights (about 7:00-9:00 p.m.) and Saturday mornings (about 9:00-noon) but will be adjusted to meet the needs of the production.

Performances will be held at the Midvale Performing Arts Center (695 West Center Street) December 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 18 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on December 9.
