Audition - YOLO: A Flash Mob Musical

After a critically-acclaimed run at the PTC Performance Space Off Broadway as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Brittany Bullen of “Shelter” is up to something new. It’s called YOLO (You Only Live Once): A Flash Mob Musical, and it’s not your typical production. It’s a love story told via several different flash mobs that the couple plans and executes over the years. Bullen hopes to get the show off the ground by first producing it as a YouTube series, to be filmed this summer.

Participants will not be compensated, but the time commitment should be minimal and in most cases will not prevent the participant from doing other projects at the same time. While most shooting will take place during Summer 2013, the casting process will be ongoing between now and the end of filming. Each video in the series will be cast separately, but performers may be invited to participate in more than one video depending on their skills and availability. For those interested who are unable to participate in filming this summer, video submissions are now being taken on the YOLO website to be considered for use in the web series as well . Once cast members are selected, they will receive digital copies of music and recordings so that they can learn their vocal parts independently. There will be one recording date, one choreography rehearsal and one shooting date per video. Since most group numbers are flash mobs, the majority of shooting should be completed in one take. Singers will meet to record the audio prior to filming and all artists will perform with the recorded track on location. Specific scheduling details will be given to cast members before they are asked to accept their role. It is vital that participants are able to learn their music independently so that they are prepared to record on the recording date. While the principal roles have already been cast, there are many dance/vocal solos that will be allocated based, again, on skills and availability.
