Audition - The Importance of Being Earnest

Playbills’ Theater is proud to present Auditions for The Importance of Being Earnest directed by Chelsea and Caleb Nelson.

AUDITIONERS: Please prepare a 30 second humorous monologue. Be prepared to use a British accent. Callback readings will be done that same evening at 7:00 p.m.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” is a comedy about two young gentlemen living in 1890′s England have taken to bending the truth in order to put some excitement into their lives. Jack Worthing has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull country life behind to visit the ravishing Gwendolyn Fairfax in London. Algy Montcrieff decided to take the name ‘Earnest’ when visiting Worthing’s young and beautiful ward, Cecily Cardew at the country manor. Things start to go awry when they end up together in country and their deceptions are discovered - threatening to spoil their romantic pursuits.

-CHARACTERS- (All roles are open)

John Worthing, J.P.- Known as Jack in the country, Ernest in the city. He escapes country life by pretending to have a brother, Ernest, who continuously gets into trouble in the city and requires his assistance. He is the guardian of Cecily and wants to marry Gwendolen.

Algernon Moncrieff - Algernon in the city, Ernest in the country. Algernon is the cousin of Gwendolen and wants to marry Cecily.

Rev. Canon Chasuble D.D.- Chasuble is the pedantic reverend who resides in the country near Jack. He is in love with Miss Prism

Merriman- Jack’s butler

Lane- Algernon’s manservant

Lady Bracknell- Gwendolen’s mother and Algernon’s aunt. She refuses to allow the marriage of Gwendolen and Jack

Hon. Gwendolen Fairfax- Daughter of Lady Bracknell. She wishes to marry Jack, whom she believes is “Ernest.”

Cecily Cardew- Ward of Jack. She wishes to marry Algernon, whom she believes is Jack’s younger brother “Ernest.”

Miss Prism- The governess of Cecily.

REHEARSAL AND SHOW TIMES:

REHEARSALS will be held Monday Wednesday and Fridays at 6:30 pm- 9:30 pm with some possible rehearsals on Saturday mornings at 10 am- 1 pm at directors discretion the SHOW will open 2/11/13 and run until 4/5/13 every MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND FRIDAY nights at 7:00 p.m. Double casting is an option, should we get a large enough turnout.
