Welcome to the new Backstage Utah

Whoa! What happened? This looks totally different…

Yeah it does! It was time for a change and there were SERIOUS problems with the site as it was built that necessitated that I overhaul it programatically, and since I was reprogramming the back-end, I decided to overhaul the design on the front end. Do you like it? Is it easier to navigate? Let me know in the comments below.

Wait! What happened to the posting boards?

Remember when I said there were serious problems with the site the way it was? The posting boards were it. They were slow to load content on the rest of the site and were prone to excessive spamming. The fact that few saw the spamming was due to no small effort on both my part and the part of my amazing moderators.

The other issue with the posting boards was that, aside from posting audition and other notices, nobody wanted to use them as a social media platform, as they were used for a decade. Everyone prefers Facebook (be sure to Like us). In fact, if you aren’t a Luddite, you should look for our Backstage Utah Theatre Chat group.

But… my audition/show/classifieds notice…

I moved over the most current ones (i.e., the auditions and shows that were taking place this weekend and later). I didn’t move any classifieds over, as I wasn’t sure if they had expired.

You can still post auditions, upcoming shows and classifieds for free on this site. You’ll just use a form rather than the posting boards. So it may take a little longer for you to see your posting, but you’ll be able to include images and make sure that your information is correct. If someone has a question about your audition/performance/classified ad, they can use the comments section.

Now this is a blog, so it’s hard to bump your show up when it’s close to its date. However, I have set posts to expire, so if you post a notice for your show in March today, it will stay here while all the December/January/February notices disappear.

I tried to get here by following a bookmark/link but it didn’t work…

Yeah, sorry about that. We’ll have some growing pains for a time, but it will all work out (hopefully) in the end. I also changed to text permalinks, so those who had linked to a review from the old site, you’ll need to make a change. Sorry, again, but there was just no way to make this both seamless and fast, and it was necessary to make this change fast.

Anyway, I hope you grow to like this new site (or fell in love on first site… sight). Again, please feel free to drop a comment about the site or any problems you may have. I’ll be making updates as the year progresses. Hopefully there will be few bugs to fix and more enhancements.

Sincerely,

Your humble Stage Manager
JC Carter
