Now Playing: “5 Carols/Jingle Jacks”

Clearfield Community Theater will present the charming holiday one-act musicals, “5 Carols/Jingle Jacks”; by Jim Christian and Kenneth Plain, at Clearfield Community Arts Center Little Theater on December 5-7 and 9.

Act one, “5 Carols for Christmas,” is set in 1954. Five best friends (all named “Carol”) are busily preparing for their annual PTA holiday spectacular. When the power goes out in the home of Carol Ann, the Carols rush off to the school for their performance. As the show begins, they discover that things are not going according to plan. But despite some major setbacks, the true message of Christmas brings everyone together in the end.

Act two, “Jingle Jacks,” is about four lumberjacks isolated in the Canadian wilderness who are chasing their dream of becoming YouTube stars. They virtually sing every conceivable style of male vocals as they present their holiday webcast: glee club, rap, barbershop, Vienna Boys Choir, classical, boy band, Irish melody, Russian carol…you name it, they sing it. There are contests and competitions along the way so get ready to get interactive with Hank, Thor, Jean-Phillippe, and Garrett the Ferret.

Jim Christian, Director of Musical Theatre Studies at Weber State University, will direct and choreograph the production. The show debuted at Weber State in 2010 and played at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre in 2012. Several of the original cast members from the Weber State and CenterPoint productions will reprise their roles.

Show times are 7 p.m.; there will be an additional showing on December 7 at 3 p.m. Families are encouraged to attend; the show is suitable for those 5 years and older. Tickets are $5 for children 5–12 and for seniors 60+; $7 for ages 13–59. Tickets may be purchased in person at Clearfield Community Services 55 South State Street Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. or by calling (801) 525-2790.
