Auditions for Hairspray are on August 18, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Midvale Main Street Theatre.

Be prepared to sing 18 bars of memorized music (CD player is available), to perform a 1 minute memorized monologue, and to learn a short dance while you are at the theatre.

This is a good sized cast with lots of great roles! Bring a head-shot photo and be prepared to fill out a short bio (or bring one with you). For more info: http://www.midvaletheatre.com

Call Backs for Hairspray will be August 19, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.

Can you tell us who the Director/Choreographer/Music Director will be for this show?  Also, with the show not opening until January, when are rehearsals going to start?

Are you a male actor?

There is one thing you never put in a trap, if you're smart - if you value your continued existence - if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow there is one thing you never EVER put in a trap. Me.

Listen, I don't know what sort of kids you've been flying around with in outer space, but you're not telling me to shut up!

As long as I don't bleed or cry, I'll do it!

Again, I think this question has been asked and re asked on every Hairspray audition. I am 99% sure that to get the rights to the show you have to cast Edna as a male.

I second the questions asked by Just J...

The answer was finally posted on their blog (for anyone else who was interested)

Quote:
The Director for Hairspray is Tammy Ross. The Music Director for Hairspray is Wendy Dahl-Smedshammer. The Choreographer for Hairspray is yet to be announced. Please go to http://www.midvaletheatre.com and click on the Auditions link to see requirements. Rehearsals will begin in September. Specific dates will be announced once the coordination of dates is defined between the directors of all shows currently going into production.

Sad to see that no one can actually provide an answer to a critical question. Just because someone believes that casting Edna with a male actor is a cotract requirement, does not make it so. All contracts can be negotiated.

Ask HCT - they do it all the time to get waivers on "objectionable content."

If somebody in the know gives a damn and can answer the question, it would be welcome.

Maybe Midvale Theatre doesn't care!
