Many of us are concerned about the major earthquake in Haiti yesterday:

If you would like to make a donation for victim assistance and relief, you can donate through Direct Relief International (click on Support Us)

I donated through this method-- it's so easy, you guys, you have to do it. It's completely legitimate and it took me ten whole seconds. You need to do it.

Text 'HAITI' to '90999' and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill. It's that simple. Get on it.

Is there anything we can do as a community? This is not something I can stand by and just donate $10 to. This is destruction on a scale so massive that I cannot even comprehend it. We have to do something, guys-- people need us. What should we do?

If we're going to die, let's die looking like a Peruvian folk band.

Sounds like my Father in Law may be heading out to Haiti to help. His unit was put on standby or something so I'm talking to him about what kind of things we could collect to send with him. I'll keep you posted.

Ok, I heard back from Daddy B. He said he can't take anything with and the best help is to donate money to the organizations that are helping. Thanks for your willingness to help!

Did the text donation too, Kaylee.  Thanks for the heads-up.  I think sending money is the best thing right now, like Andy's Father-in-.... uh... my cousin(?) (Why do you call Mike "Daddy B."?) anyway.  Yeah.  Money is the best thing.  The organizations who use the money know best what to do with it and where it should go.

Thanks!

Because I'm comfortable with calling my in laws mom and dad and when I put them in my phone I needed to differentiate which Mom and which Dad I was calling. Mom was the first and I thought Mommy B was kinda cute, so Dad got put in as Daddy B *shrug* I don't think they know they're in the phone like that.

Ahhh!  Make sense.  I was trying to get "B" out of "Mike" and I just couldn't do it.

By the way, if anyone isn't quite selfless enough to give money without getting anything in return, or if you are looking for Valentines gifts or other items anyway, please look here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/heartsforhaiti.  All items have been donated by the artists/craftspeople, and all proceeds (after the unavoidable listing and Paypal fees) will be given to Doctors Without Borders.
