Steel Magnolias

Lehi City Arts Council is proud to announce auditions for their upcoming production of Steel Magnolias.
Auditions will be Jan 20 and 217pm- 9pm at the Lehi Arts Center (685 N Center St, Lehi, UT 84043)
Please come prepared to read sides from the show. You can access the sides online on our website or they will be available at the audition. https://www.lehicityarts.org/auditions

Character Descriptions

**Keep in mind that all the characters are Southern, so please attempt a Southern accent in your audition

Truvy: 35-45 Owner of the beauty shop. She is sassy, witty, warm, and generous. She’s the family breadwinner and takes great pride in her business. At Truvy’s shop, ladies get first-class attention, free advice and homespun wisdom.

Annelle: 20’s Very shy hair-dresser. Truvy’s assistant. Naïve, sweet, confused and strong enough to keep going no matter what life throws at her. She goes from a very soft-spoken person to a bible-loving Christian with her heart on her sleeve.

Clairee: 50’s-60’s Widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin. A grand dame. Elegant, self- assured, sophisticated. Wicked sense of humor. Very Sarcastic. Ouiser’s best friend.

Shelby: 20’s Diabetic young lady. Prettiest girl in town, and loved by all. Passionate, strong- willed, determined to grab hold of all of life’s experiences.

M’Lynn: 40s-50’s Mother of Shelby. Certain she knows what’s best, strong, stubborn, loves fully and fiercely.

Ouiser (pronounced Weezer): She is the same age as Clairee. Tough, wealthy, cranky, eccentric. Does just as she pleases and doesn’t care what anyone thinks about it. Her unique personality and sense of humor is a great relief in the serious scenes. She isvery close to Clairee

All current CDC safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 will be followed and are in place for auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
REHEARSALS START: Tuesday January, 26, 2021
PERFORMANCE DATES: April 23, 24, 26, 29, 30, May 1, 3, 6, 7, 8
Due to the size of the show and given current circumstances with COVID-19 there is a potential for double casting or swing/understudy roles if the director sees fit.
