Better

The Wasatch Playwright’s Residency is work shopping and presenting a workshop production of Better by Daniel Rattner in Ogden, UT. The whole process will take place from the 5th to the 17th of August. Each actor will receive a $100 honorarium. The production will be accompanied by a conversation with Second Stage Associate Artistic Director Christie Evangelisto.

We’re looking to cast the following roles:

Marielle, female, any ethnicity, 20’s-30s, a nurse. Marielle is a caring, genuinely optimistic, and forward-thinking nurse at the clinic. She believes in the value of interpersonal connection and tries to break down the barriers between caregivers and those they look after.

Jane, 40’s-60s, female, any ethnicity, a doctor. An experienced doctor who heads up the clinic, Jane is seemingly aloof but has merely developed a protective shell after years in this field. Jane understands the value of the borders between patients and caregivers. She has seen the system succeed and fail but stands by it as the best way to help those in her care.

Carver, late teens-early 20s, male, any ethnicity, a patient. Caustic, nihilistic, and outgoing Carver is an addict of most things and has trouble understanding why that’s a problem.

You will need to be available 9am -5pm on the 5th and 1pm to 4pm on the 7th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th of August.
