Audition Notice for The 39 Steps

Sugar Factory Playhouse/West Jordan Theater Arts are excited to announce auditions for “The 39 Steps” July 8 and 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the old West Jordan Library (1970 W. 7800 S.). Callbacks July 11 9:00 a.m. by invitation only. Performances September 10-12, 14, 17-19 at the old West Jordan Library. Directed by Michelle Groves.

All roles require impeccable comedic timing and great physicality. These are high-energy, physical roles, and the ability to do multiple accents (British, Scottish, German, etc.) is a giant plus. Although there are four actors, all actors (except the actor playing Richard) will play multiple roles.

Auditioners should come prepared for cold readings from the script.

Richard Hannay – Early to mid-30s. Handsome with a pencil mustache. Refined British accent. Suave without being stuffy. A bit of a ladies’ man, but very likable.

Annabella Schmidt/Pamela/Margaret – Mid-20s to early-30s. Beautiful and elegant. Excellent British (not Cockney) and German accents. Can put on a bit of sass while still being likable.

Clown 1 – Mid-20s to late-30s. Multiple British accents as well as Scottish, Irish, German, etc. Plays multiple roles ranging in age from 30s to 70s+. Not an actual clown. Very physical comedy. Lots of energy and movement. Switches roles very quickly, somewhat akin to Genie in “Aladdin.”

Clown 2 - Same as Clown 1.
