I finally had a chance to see this. As Dreamworks films go, tt wasn't up there with How To Train Your Dragon, but it was a very fun, entertaining movie with a good story and some hilarious bits. Above all else, I found the characters to be played by Will Ferrell and David Cross to be so likable (this is the Will Ferrell of Elf) that I was really pulled in. Not up there with the very best animated films, but I really enjoyed it.

My brother and I went to see this last... Sunday? I think? And we both laughed a lot. I wouldn't call it a gut-buster, but I chuckled a lot-- I really enjoyed it!

A was actually a little bothered that it turned out the concept was in some ways similar to Manic City, but noot TOO similar, and I think the tone is so different it's not a bother.

Wait.. Will Ferrel can play likeable characters? I've totally quit watching all Ferrel movies cuz I just don't trust him to not be suckily overthetop anymore. And I don't know of any critics that share my views on his acting, so I don't know who to trust when they give him a good review...

I agree with you. His standard character is an overacted lowmouth shock value jerk. Once in a while in something like this or Elf his surprises me, but I'm not a fan of the whole school of comedy to which he usually belongs. Which makes it all the more pleasant when I like him as much as I did in this.

See, I didn't even realize that Will Farrell was one of the voices until the credits started rolling.  (Yeah, I'm notoriously lousy at actor identification.)  So I figure that's a pretty good sign that it wasn't a typical Will Farrell role/movie, because he usually gets on my nerves.

I know far too much about movies before I see them. I knew Ferrell was in the movie before I saw it.
