The Egyptian Theatre is proud to announce the opening of The Egyptian Theatre Studios located across from The Egyptian Theatre in The Galleries at 345 Main Street. The studios feature a black box theatre that will enable The Egyptian to stage more theatre offerings that call for an intimate setting. The opening show will be the sexually charged, brutally raw "Danny and The Deep Blue Sea."

Danny and the Deep Blue Sea was author John Patrick Shanley's first published and produced play in his long and successful writing career. He won the Academy Award for Moonstruck and won the Tony Award and was nominated for the Academy Award for Doubt. This brutally dramatic and sexually charged drama is a far cry from The Egyptian's main stage bill of light-hearted musical comedies, hopefully filling a desired niche for locals who are looking for more straight dramatic theatre in town.

Starring Amber Hansen as Roberta and Jesse Peery as Danny, and directed by former Artistic Director Terence Goodman, "Danny" is about two raw, unwanted, inarticulate misfits who find themselves in a seedy Bronx bar. He is brooding, self-loathing and possibly homicidal; she is tormented, guilt ridden and possibly suicidal, and from the moment they start talking the tension is explosive. They are clearly the universal misfits from which many of us, if we were honest, are only a step away. The brilliantly written dialogue takes you on a journey through lightning quick verbal jabs and a sequence of knockout psychological punches all in 80 minutes. It is the kind of show that will hang with you for a very long time and is both shocking and sadly touching in its appeal and will leave you both exhilarated and highly conflicted. It will be well worth the $10 admission to see "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea".
