I have an ok format for my programs but was wondering what you guys use to design your programs...templates? From scratch? Pay someone professional to do it?
Thanks!

From scratch mostly... I've used Word, Page Maker, Indesign, and pretty-much use Photoshop exclusively now.

As The Children's Theatre's Graphic Designer, I would empahsize that Photoshop is not a text editor and is probably the worst tool for type.

Even though I despise Word, if that's all you have it would be okay. I agree that if you have a layout program it makes it much easier, and you get more of what you want, however there is the cost and the learning curve.

I have seen some horrific programs, that probably shouldn't have been printed, and it did not add to the overall effect of the production I attended. That doesn't mean you cannot go simple and inexpensive. As long as the layout and design is well done it may not matter if it is a black and white copy on 20# paper. Just some things to think about.

Some other talking points to think about:
What operating system you are running, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.

Printed at Kinkos, on a home/office Laser printer, offset, or digital printing.

Quantity needed.

Whether you have advertisers running ads.
