This is a girl who has had her heart broken
Cried for continuous hours
Yelled and screamed for help
A girl who turned her back on the world
and a girl who did nothing but love someone.

Well you would notice when you and your friends audition for their shows, get called back, only to find out that they end up making phone calls to the people they wanted originally who didn't bother auditioning. Talented folks, but the same faces over and over again.

I only know one person in it, in the ensemble, and they mentioned that a large part of the cast didn't even audition.

If I were in charge, sure, I'd want to make sure that I got who I thought were the best of the best. I'm not saying me or anyone else would be better for the roles necessarily. I just think it's a little silly they bother having auditions when they know what they want. It wastes our time AND theirs.

Sour grapes ruin the whole bunch. If you don't have actual casting info, it's probably not a great idea to use this thread to whine and be bitter, you know? Start a new one if you want to do that.

Nothing new under the sun! Another person's bitter about the way the Hale does its casting. Le shock! Le awe! Wink

I'm curious about actual casting information as well, for this and for Mockingbird (which has its own thread for that).

Also: this show is kind of a special case, isn't it? It's not every day they bring in Audra McDonald. I'd want to carefully hand-select my cast too. Of course they hold auditions. If it was a waste of their time, they wouldn't do it. It's not like they're out to deliberately make you feel like crap-- they're doing their job. Do yours, and then suck it up and move on when you don't get it. It's never going to be fair.

Who's even directing this one? I'm kind of feeling pathetic that I don't know more about it.

Dave Tinney is directing and choreographing.

I doubt they would have wasted their time on unnecessary auditions. Even if they had people in mind for all of the speaking roles and were only using the auditions to fill out the ensemble (which is probably not true), it's still necessary to hold auditions.

And, as for it being a waste of your time...somebody I know was telling me about a friend who moved to New York and did nothing but audition for a period of several months without ever getting cast.  Since they didn't get to do any "real" performing, they took every audition as an opportunity to perform.  Which it is.  And a callback is usually an opportunity to work with other actors.  None of that is a waste of your time.

The common idea that casting regulars means roles were pre-cast is a specious leap in logic.
