Meditation and yoga is also great because it helps you draw in energy from the universe.

I'm really looking for stuff with a clear medical/scientific babsis, but I am willing to consider other alternatives.

Okay fine. I guess I lost you there. Roll Eyes

Just trust me when I say that yoga and meditation (and just exercise in general) helps you feel more energized. There are scientific studies, but I'm too lazy to look them up.

I speak from personal experience, if that means anything to you.

To be honest, personal experience doesn't mean a lot to me, but when I hear A LOT of personal experiences say the some thing, SOME TIMES it's worth looking into. I'm open to the idea that yoga helps people, but I don't think it's for me. Thank you very much for the suggestion, and I hope i haven't seemed disrespectful, because my limited aquainatce with you leads me to respect you quite a bit.

I'm just not looking for New Age/Holistic/Ntropathic type stuff for ANY aspect of my life. i have had good and bad experiences with it in the past, but i currently have enough anger about the bad experiences that it's hard to be open to it.

to expand a little on what Cheeky said, any sort of regular exercise routine helps me with my energy levels and focus during the day.  I find that even 20-30 minutes of light exercise a day helps out quite a bit.  Even little things like taking the dog for a walk or a bike ride work well for me.  However, as Mir said, you need to find what works best for you.

Well, there is no scientific backing that it draws some invisible and mystical energy from the universe. But there is plenty of proof that using those kind of relaxation techniques does increase serotonin levels in your body and lower stress chemicals like cortisol and adrenalin. So it can reduce anxiety, which over time can build up and drain your body of energy.

Another interesting thing is that bringing down your anxiety levels by practicing relaxing exercises like yoga and meditation can decrease cytokine interleukin-6 levels in your blood.  Cytokine interleukin-6 contributes to inflammatory diseases like stroke, diabetes, heart disease, etc.  Of course there are other tools you can use to reduce anxiety besides yoga and meditation, but they do work for a lot of people.   And of course, it's not the answer to everything.  Genetics play a role, so does exercise, eating, various environment factors, a lot of stuff.

Lower the sugars and fats in your diet and increase water intake.  Not only will this help improve kidney function, but it will make you feel better all around.

Although very tasty, it's the simple sugars and fats that slow us down and make us sluggish.  You can replace simple sugars like candy and soda for complex ones like oranges, apples, pineapple, and strawberries.

Thanks MRC and Shrink for helping dig me out of my metaphysical hole. Roll Eyes

I guess what I should have said was, regardless of whether or not it's true or sound, it helps when you're doing it to *think* of it that way.

You "trick" the mind into thinking that you're getting energy from external forces, and you feel more energized, regardless of whether it "actually" happened.
