What if we tried doing this remotely? I.e. everyone watches the movie, then we talk about it here?

CanadaAlex and I do that all the time! Granted, we synch up and watch at the same time, but we wouldn't have to do that here. It could be more like a book club, everyone watching the film when they find a spare couple of hours instead of meeting up on one night-- and that way we'd get you in on the conversation, which is THE MOST BESTEST PART!

I like this idea. However, I think it would be more interesting to discuss a movie most of us have not seen, so that will effect the selection process. I also would like to suggest that we come up with some general parameters of discussion (direction, acting, writing, cinematography, etc), so the discussion doesn't simply become "That was awesome and (insert name of actor/actress here) was so hot!"

Let's start compiling a list of films to vote on as our first selection. Please post any ideas you have.

I thought you'd have a higher opinion of us.

P.S. How hot was Al Pachino in The Godfather??? *gum smack*

I have a high opinion of you. I'm refering to myself as much as anyone. Many times I've merely posted "I love that movie!" or some such remark, and we all tend to get preoccupied with discussing who we think is attractive (I've gone on tangents about Angelina Jolie, Amy Adams or someone like that many times). I merely wanted to focus the discussion, and I sincerely apologize for coming across as condescending.

I'm picky about who I dsicuss film with, and I wouldn't be doing this at all if I did have a high opinion of the people here. For example, I look forward to what you have to say about Tron Legacy,

As far as chooising a film most of us haven't seen, I just think that would be more interesting. It's okay if some of us have already seen it, but I'm just suggesting we shy away from films it's likely the majority of us have seen.

A few ideas (some of which I have seen, and some I have not):

Barton Fink
Munich
Apocalypse Now
Paths of Glory
Paradise Now
Insomnia
Shadow of a Doubt

Again, I'm very open to the suggestions of others.

I'm toying with going in a different direction: going through the AFI's Top 100 Films of all time list. Is anyone for/against this?

Cool. I've seen 44 of of them, and I'd like to see the rest. I imagine most of us have seen a decent number of them, but they're still worth discussing. I've only disliked one of the ones I've seen, and I'd be willing to go back and give it a second chance for discussion.

*gasp* I've seen more of them than you have, what?!  I have issues with some of the choices the AFI has made.  I'd love to see the ones I haven't.  And I like this idea.  With my schedule, it could be a way for me to be involved.

Well, I am at 47 on the "Ten Years Later" list, but I have no idea how many you've seen. I agree, there are some films on there that I don't agree with, but there will be on any etensive list.
