Also, anything dramatic. I tend to be drawn to and cast in comedic roles. I honestly don't know anymore if I could do a serious part, but I'd love to try someday.

they say that comedy is a lot harder than drama, so you must be SUPER talented.

Who's they? Do they? Why's it harder? No, I'm just a natural goofball and it comes easy. Drama would be my challenge - the two dramatic roles I had in high school I still made 'em laugh, so I kind of just gravitated to the comic relief roles.

Like, honestly, out of the two male supporting roles in A Little Night Music, though I'd love to do either one, I could do Carl Magnus in a heartbeat, but Henrik... that would be stretching it. Henrik is beyond my reach (and not just because I can't play the cello).

i LOVE that show. add Desiree to my list.

i don't know who "they" are. its just a quote. in fact i think a famous playwright said it. anyway...i know how you feel, only i am exact opposite. i love dramatic roles, and i feel so much more comfortable playing the serious stuff than i do the comedy. i'm just not that funny onstage. comedic timing is a talent i was not blessed with.

Then you and I need to be in a show together where we can switch it up.

Listen, I don't know what sort of kids you've been flying around with in outer space, but you're not telling me to shut up!

As long as I don't bleed or cry, I'll do it!

Apparently Josh Lucas said it once.

So did a person apparently named Paul Venier

A bunch of other people tend to disagree

But a girl named Blair Lewin, who has the same background as I do in Lucille Ball agrees with you.

I guess those are the people who say it.

I have always wanted to play Radames in Aida but I can't sing a lick.  I have the body for it though which is nice.  I also wish I could play Aticus Finch from Mockingbird but I need a few more years under my belt.

Sarah in Ragtime. Forever barred. And like Spiker, I'll never play Juliet, simply because I'm not diminutive enough. Likewise Jane Eyre (which breaks my heart).

There are some fine points to playing comedy over drama, like knowing how and when to "punch" certain lines.  God knows I can't seem to get that down, but the ONE time I was even remotely successful in playing comedy was when I didn't even know it was a comic part.  Doing a scene in class from "The Gingerbread Lady," I could have sworn it was a pretty dramatic scene involving an actor whose life was falling down around him, but every line I said got nothing but uproarious laughter.  I was shocked.  I did the same scene a few day later, only trying some "comic" techniques and got nowhere near the laughs.  The instructor explained this was because  I was "asking for a laugh, instead of the butter," and told the famous story behind that line.  The moral to that story to me was, when in doubt, just play it seriously (the laughs will come if they were meant to be).

That said, I think I shall never get to play the romantic lead, unless it's a part that calls for a certain amount of irony and/or stark realism that flies in the face of theatrical convention.

I'd love to play the American in "Chess" (I know the more recent versions actually give him a name, I just like the original concept album).

Hamlet, maybe, but honestly he doesn't cross my mind that often (I'm often more likely cast as Claudius when Shakespeare talent is short, and even more likely as Rosencrantz or Guildenstern).

Che in "Evita" would be fun.

Come to think of it, besides not having the singing chops in the first place, a lot of musical leads elude me because even before my voice changed, I never sang tenor.

Not sure if you got the bod, but you def. got the cockiness for the role....

...strange, I don't remember a 'bod' being a prerequisite...

Start taking voice lessons and I'll start going to the gym.  Let's race to get cast.
