What are some roles that you long to play that you would never in a million years get cast in?

I was just listening to the Evita soundtrack, movie version (I know, I know) and I was just thinking how awesome it would be to play Che.

(random sidenote:  it's been a while since I had listened to it and I had forgotten how incredibly pitchy Madonna is. I don't think she hits a single note! This would've been an incidence where AutoTune should not only have been acceptable, but insisted upon!)

hmm...

I have a lot of female dream roles. Bakers Wife in ITW, Kathy in Last 5 Years. Mama Rose in gypsy. Mrs. Lovett in sweeney todd. Maureen in Rent. Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd. Lucille in Parade. Dot in Sunday in the Park With George. Kate Monster in Ave q. Velma in Chicago. Sally Bowles in Cabaret. Fosca in Passion.

i could go on and on.

when it comes to male parts, there aren't many. I have kinda come to terms with what kinda roles i am bound to play, and have realized that those are the roles i WANT to play. So there aren't many male dream roles that i trust i will get to play in the future.

For me, it's roles that I've now aged out of.  I would have loved the opportunity to play Viola or Juliet.  Those will never happen now.  Or singing roles that require someone who can do more than carry a tune.  Audrey.  Adelaide.

And Hamlet.

The Witch.

Though, I have played the lady before in shows, all it would take is one good, open-minded Into The Woods casting director and I could rock it like... a... rocker....

Also, anything dramatic.  I tend to be drawn to and cast in comedic roles.  I honestly don't know anymore if I could do a serious part, but I'd love to try someday.

they say that comedy is a lot harder than drama, so you must be SUPER talented.

Who's they?  Do they?  Why's it harder?  No, I'm just a natural goofball and it comes easy.  Drama would be my challenge - the two dramatic roles I had in high school I still made 'em laugh, so I kind of just gravitated to the comic relief roles.

Like, honestly, out of the two male supporting roles in A Little Night Music, though I'd love to do either one, I could do Carl Magnus in a heartbeat, but Henrik... that would be stretching it.  Henrik is beyond my reach (and not just because I can't play the cello).

There are those who would say that all roles are beyond my reach.

I only agree on days where I have had less than four hours of sleep the night before.

Why, yes, I only had 3 hours and 45 minutes of sleep last night.  Why do you ask?

My skills are as varied as they are impractical.

i LOVE that show. add Desiree to my list.

i don't know who "they" are. its just a quote. in fact i think a famous playwright said it. anyway...i know how you feel, only i am exact opposite. i love dramatic roles, and i feel so much more comfortable playing the serious stuff than i do the comedy. i'm just not that funny onstage. comedic timing is a talent i was not blessed with.
