I am usually the most critical person you find when it comes to adapoting films into Broadway musicals. I hate the whole concept. Yet . . . I can kind of see this one actually working. The movie is largely forgotten. Those who do remember it mostly remember it for the song, and Dolly parton writing the new songs means they will likely mesh well with each other, an d you won't have "Footloose" syndrome (where the 80s pop songs clash horribly with the modern Broadway numbers). The performances are good, but not really iconic, so it doesn't feel too weird to recast the roles. It's a fairly simple story that won't be hurt by the addition of musical numbers. In fact, they might give it a blast of energy.  If this reaches a point whre it's available to community theatres, here's musical where most of the lead roles are female, which is a good thing. And, most of all, I can see this being enjoyable.

Not that I see this becoming a classic musical, mind you. Just that, for once, my thought on hearing this existed was "this could work" rather than "I have to stop this from happening."

Oh yea. This could actually be better than the movie.  Since the movie was sort of a campy theatrical over-the-top wonder!

LOVE it!  I cannot wait.

Exactly. It's a movie that tonally fits as a Broadway musical. The one performance I do think is kind of inconic is Dabney Coleman as the lying sexist egotistical hypocritical bigot (you HAVE to hope this becomes a song), but since this is a very theatrical performance, I can see any number of Broadway musical actors pulling it off.

I wonder if they'll keep the sequence of smoking "Maui-Wowie" and turn it into a musical number.

I had the privilege of seeing this last night.  Allison Janney was a spectacular Lily Tomlin, and the other two were quite amazing as well.

It really had the same feel as the movie, while including some extremely musical-esque sequences to fill the void I suppose, but everything was fun, and the music was consistently good.

I can't decide if I would highly recommend this to someone visiting or not.  I can say that the dancing and choreography was even better than Guys and Dolls which is a dance heavy show.

Oh, and Neil Haskell from So You Think You Can Dance was in it as well, awesome as ever.
