Title: The Hunger Games Post by The Hesitant He on Oct 28th, 2009 at 12:27pm
young adult fiction.
easy read. pretty damn intense. i'm about half way through the first book, so don't say anything with out a *Spoiler alert* if you've read it already, but i am TOTALLY engrossed in the story. and it makes me feel a little twinge of guilt for my obsession over reality tv. :) |

My sister was preaching this book to me over the shower door last night. It's next on my list after this Dark Tower series.

I tackled the Dark Tower last year. Where are you in the series? What do you think so far? I think my favorite book was the second one.

Okay, I just wolfed down the first book of the Hunger Games (hehehe) and LOVED it!!! I am 4 chapters into the second book.
About the Dark Tower series - I needed a teeny break from the series because it is hard for me to read Stephen King quickly (VERY odd thing for me), and i get frustrated. I just finished book three prior to this little break, I have book four at home waiting for me whenever I am ready. I dont have a favorite yet, but I am really loving each book more than the next. |

Oh hoorah! I'm thinking of starting Hunger Games after I finish the series I'm on right now. It'll give me something to read for the holiday break. I think I'll make it required holiday reading for my son too. We are starting a unit on analyzing propaganda and that might fit in just snugly.

Okay, so I just started these. I actually didn't know it was a series, I just thought it was the one book.
Y'all. Y'all. I devoured the first book in about 24 hours, and I'm actually sort of desperate for Friday and payday to show up so I can dash out and get the second one. It's just such a fun read. It clips along at breakneck speed. The writing is not the best, most beautiful thing ever, but the detail in it is fantastic, the way Suzanne Collins paints the picture of this dystopian society and District 12 in particular, Katniss's memories of home and her family. I can't even wait to get to the bookstore this weekend. Reader beware: it will make you hungry (oh wow, the Hunger Games will make you hungry, huh, that's weird SHUT UP). The descriptions of food are eeeverywhere. |

Has anyone picked up Mockingjay yet?

Oh I'm reading this now too. I don't know what is wrong with me. I used to refuse to start a book until I had finished an old one. My ADD is getting worse. :) Anyway, this is my "vacation" book, so I've been reading it on the subway.
***possible spoiler*** I had no idea how much like Battle Royale this was. |

Okay, I JUST started my reread of these because I just got the last one from Amazon. If anybody reads the third one before I get there and spoils it, I WILL CUT A BITCH.
(sort of. I am really not that fussy about spoilers but come on.) |

That... was not fun.
But it was really good. |

I read ALLLLL of this. :)
Loved the first book. The second and third book are acceptable extensions of that story, and I'm supportive of what the author decided to do with them. War can be hell. Messy, with needless loss. :( |

I'm just a couple of chapters into the first book. Wishing I had more time to read it.

Yeah that last chapter was amazingly poignant. I'm so glad the author had the courage to go there.
I will say more once I get the go ahead from y'all so as not to spoil. ;) |
